The Kendall County Forest Preserve recognizes that there are many local horse owners who do not have access to their own indoor arena, yet still would like to ride in poor weather. The Ellis Equestrian Center will provide public open arena times upon availability, please call ahead 815.475.4035. The public may purchase a yearly or daily tag to ride their horse in the indoor arena in between Ellis regularly scheduled programs. We will strive to serve the horse owning public and keep arena times open to the public as long as safety and liability standards are met. The following rules will be posted for public arena use:
Public ‘Open Arena’ Rules
- Enter and exit the arena only at the designated Public Access points
- Use the arena at your own risk
- Horseback-riding headgear approved by the Safety Equipment Institute and American Society for Testing and Materials (SEI-ASTM) is required.
- Only Ellis Equestrian Center Personnel are permitted to instruct or coach
- The use of schooling equipment including but not limited to jump standards and poles is not allowed
- Arena use is prohibited during Ellis Equestrian Center programs and maintenance activities
- Unsafe or inappropriate activities will result in the loss of arena use privileges, and no refund of arena usage fees.
- Be aware that Ellis Equestrian Center horses may get loose from their handlers and suddenly rear, leap, shy, run, buck, kick, or bite, causing other horses to act similarly.
